The summer of 2026, characterised by high temperatures and long periods of intense heat, has accelerated the ripening process of the bunches. The grapes are already well developed and have a good sugar content, so much so that some early-ripening varieties, such as Pinot Grigio, could be harvested in just a few weeks’ time. Red grape varieties, on the other hand, require longer ripening times and will be harvested between late September and the end of October, when they will have reached the perfect balance of sugar, acidity and phenolic ripeness, which is essential for producing quality wines.
The Lake Garda region offers particularly favourable conditions for viticulture. The presence of the lake helps to moderate temperatures, limiting temperature fluctuations and promoting the gradual ripening of the grapes. The breezes that blow daily between the lake and the hills also help to keep the vineyards well ventilated, reducing humidity and contributing to the health of the bunches.
During this period, winegrowers carry out continuous checks in the vineyards, analysing the sugar content, acidity and phenolic ripeness of the grapes. It is not enough for the bunch to appear visually ripe: it is essential to strike the right balance between sugars, acidity and aromatic components, which are fundamental to producing quality wines and bringing out the characteristics of each grape variety.
Among the most common grape varieties in the Lake Garda area are Pinot Grigio, Trebbiano di Lugana, Garganega, Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. Each has a different ripening time, which is why the harvest extends over several weeks, following the natural cycle of each variety.
The grape harvest marks the culmination of a whole year’s work in the vineyard. It is the result of the care devoted to the vines throughout the seasons and constitutes the first step towards producing the wines of the new vintage. Expectations are positive once again this year: the summer heat has encouraged early ripening, and producers are confident that the weather over the coming weeks will allow the grapes to be harvested in the best possible conditions.
Between August and early September, the landscape around Lake Garda will once again come alive with one of the most eagerly awaited moments of the year, when tradition, experience and passion come together to create wines that reflect the identity and value of this region.
Harvest time is drawing near on Lake Garda!
August is the month when, even in the Lake Garda area, the final preparations for the harvest begin. Whilst the harvest will get into full swing between the end of the month and September, winegrowers are already busy monitoring the vineyards on a daily basis to identify the best time to pick the grapes. The summer of 2026, characterised by high temperatures and long periods of intense heat, has accelerated the ripening process of the bunches.
